This was started when I lived on Kwajalein, Marshall Islands, in 2002. I sat on a boathouse deck and painted the scene live. I added the water, sky and a few details to the boats today. Feels good to have it finally finished!

For about the last fifteen years of my life I have had the nagging feeling I should be doing something. The feeling is starting to subside. I do not know if it is just because I am busy or I am doing what the nag was nudging me to do. Beyond that, I am reaching another level in this process. I feel parts of my brain waking up asleep for years. Just now scratching the surface...

I always start these types of paintings thinking it won't take very long. Wrong every time. Though they are a good way to practice brush control and see how colors blend when using acrylics.

It seriously needs to warm up. I don't know if these beach scenes make you warmer or colder, but they are fun to paint!

I am comfortable painting from a photo. But I did this one from imagination. It is more exciting not knowing what is going to happen with a picture. Realism with nothing to refer to is more difficult than having a photo, or painting live. I really had to trust myself with the silhouettes.

Tried to paint how I felt on Friday. Ate crab cakes the night before. Not positive the seafood caused it, but I am pretty sure this is what my stomach looked like.

Worked several hours on a painting that has been in progress for awhile. I have been taking pics as it comes along. Should be done next week some time. This one is an effort to practice subtle shadowing, something I hope to improve upon.

At 11:27pm any more work on the painting was out of the question. After spilling a cup of dirty water on the bird from yesterday I decided to call it a night. (The liquid was blotted up in time to save it :) The big accomplishment for the day was pushing and pulling the couch you see in the top photo up 4 flights of winding stairs, with the help of some fine gentlemen working on a hockey supply store on the ground level. Wheww! The couch would not fit on the freight elevator. Too freakin' big. It is very comfy, though!
